Time to Relax
Before the holiday madness began, Ben and I got away for a relaxing weekend in wine country. We stayed in Carlton, Oregon and spent the night in converted grain silos at the Abbey Road Farms B&B.
What I love about Carlton is that the whole town is centered around celebrating good food and wine. As we were walking through the town, it seemed like all of the stores had some type of public food or wine tasting event. Ben joked that the hair salon was having a wine tasting… and it very well may have. We walked into this very cute antique store, Valley Emporium, and they were having a release party for their friend’s vineyard, Volare. The party was to celebrate the release of their premier 2009 pinot noir. The wine was good, and the wine makers Tim and his wife ( I forgot her name!), were very cool people. It was fun to chat with interesting folks and hear about people pursuing their passions. We’ll definitely be back to try Volare wine again!
In addition to wine tasting, we were also able to take in some of the beautiful scenery. On Sunday morning, after a farm fresh breakfast, Ben and I took a short tour of the Abbey Road Farm.
I really liked the chicken barn
The Abbey Road Farm is just down the road from the Our Lady of Guadalupe Trappist Abbey. The abbey has miles of hiking trails, with beautiful scenery, so we decided to integrate a hike into our weekend full of good food and wine.
After we got home we realized that we may have gone a bit overboard with the wine buying since our wine didn’t fit in our rack. Family and friends beware, you may be getting wine for Christmas this year!
Do you have a favorite winery?
